Bristol Receives Prestigious Financial Award

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Bristol by Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

This is the 31st year the City has received the prestigious award. The requirements for reporting for what is known as the ‘yearly audit’ have increased dramatically over the years, as has the amount of work that goes into preparing the City’s year-end financial information which is presented in the final CAFR report.

In addition to the Certification of Achievement, GFOA presents an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement to the individual most responsible for the CAFR and this year, in Bristol, the recognition is given to Assistant Comptroller, Robin L. Manuele.

“Robin is well deserving of this recognition”, stated Diane Waldron, City Comptroller.

“Robin’s expertise in governmental accounting, working with City staff and the auditors is essential to completing this document each year, Robin cares about ‘getting it right’.”

“While Robin is the primary individual responsible for the City achieving this award year after year, this award would also not be possible if not for the dedication of the Comptroller’s Office staff to insure each and every financial transaction is recorded, and accounted for in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board requirements,” stated Board Chairman John Smith.
