The rumor on the street — or social media — that La Famiglia Deli would reopen in the former Downtown Cafe located at 188 Main Street turned out to be just what it was, a rumor.
The popular Deli posted on social media in early June they re-opened in Waterbury.
Many commented asking they reopened in Waterbury but the deli provided no answers.
La Familia Deli was a Bristol staple. It closed its Rt. 6 location half a decade ago.
The Deli was known for huge grinders and their famous meatballs.

Now that the speculation that La Familia would move into the former Downtown Cafe is over, it leaves the spot still vacant.
The once popular downtown bar abruptly shut down in 2015.
Prior to its closure, Downtown Cafe held the title of Bristol’s oldest operating bar/cafe.
With the opening of the new Bristol Hospital medical facility that will bring thousands to Main Street, it seems business-oriented individuals see the possibilities.
Most recently, Main Street Pint & Plate opened up in the old Barley Vine restaurant and pub.
In addition to the Main Street Pub, Better Half Brewery and Mo’s Brick Oven Pizza will soon open up in the former CVS at 59 North Main Street.
