Alan Beitman Superintendent of Schools for Region 10 Public Schools said “Last evening the Region 10 Board of Education adopted, for the Public Hearing on Monday, March 25 at 7:00 PM in the Lewis Mills Auditorium, the estimate of expenses of $ 41,391,640 or a 3.73% increase over the current operating budget.”
Regional School District #10 serves Burlington and Harwinton and was established in 1962. The four schools of the district, Lewis S. Mills High School, Har-Bur Middle School, Lake Garda School and Harwinton Consolidated School, have a total enrollment of more than 2800 students.
The communities have a commitment to high quality schools meeting the academic needs of a wide range of students.
Burlington, with a current population of 7,800, and Harwinton, with a current population of 5,300, are growing, attractive, suburban communities with residential areas scattered between large pockets of watershed-protected land. Major shopping areas exist in nearby Avon, Bristol, and Torrington.
“Additionally, Beitman said they approved two new positions: A social worker for Grades PreK-4 to be shared between Lake Garda School and Harwinton Consolidated and an enrichment teacher for grades 5-8. They also reinstated a fifth-grade teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. The Board has directed me to find the funds — approximately $180,000 — for these positions within the approved Estimate of Expenses.
The hearing will take place on Monday, March 25 at 7:00 PM in the Lewis Mills Auditorium.
