The Mum Festival Committee announced over 20 hours of live music and entertainment will be a feature of this year’s Mum Festival.

This year’s Festival will run from September 20th – 23rd and will feature over 14 bands and performers playing over 20 hours of live music from local and regional favorites to bands attracting national attention.

This year’s long Festival weekend will again feature two entertainment venues – a Main Stage on the former Memorial Boulevard school grounds adjacent to the carnival and a Stage East location midway down the Memorial Boulevard just past the tennis courts.

This year’s entertainment lineup is shaping up to be one of the best in the Festival’s history”, said Maria Salice, Mum Festival Arts and Entertainment Chair. “Our goal this year was to really, truly secure an entertainment lineup that would have something for just about anyone. With that in mind, we’ve got just about every type of music genre represented from current hits to classic rock, country to swing, oldies to Motown. We’ve even added a Latin band and a great acapella group on the list of entertainment.”

After formal opening ceremonies on Thursday, September 20th, which begin at 6:00pm, the barbershop quartet, Off the Chart, will begin the musical entertainment on the Festival’s Main Stage at 6:30. Opening night also signals the return of the Stanley Street Big Band, an 18-piece orchestra, which will entertain the audience with a variety of swing and funk tunes. The orchestra features a style similar to contemporary big bands like Buddy Rich and Maynard Ferguson and will play from 7:30 to 9:00pm.

“The Stanley Street Big Band adds a real touch of class to the festival,” added Salice. “It’s just the perfect complement to the expanded Art Gala and Exhibition under the beer and wine tent.”

The Art Exhibition, which is co-sponsored by the City of Bristol’s new Arts and Culture Commission, will showcase more than a dozen artists, photographers and artisans. Patrons will not only be able view the artists’ works but will be able to talk and interact with them. Additionally, some of the pieces on display will also be up for sale.

Friday, September 21st   will feature a fireworks display and a family fun theme. Main Stage musical entertainment begins with featured artist, the Cole Morson Band at 6:30pm.

“Cole is 16 years old, but has the talent, skills and experience of someone much older,” commented Maria. “He is a must-see. His music is indie, blues-inspired, featuring music by guitar greats like Eric Clapton, BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Mayer and others. He also writes and performs his own original music.”

The popular band Relic is back as the Friday night headliner, playing classic rock favorites from the 70s, 80s and 90s. The band, which starts at 8:30pm, features super-vocalist front man and Bristol native, Allen Stone. “Relic is a high-energy crowd pleaser,” continued Maria.

Saturday’s September 22nd lineup includes nearly 10 straight hours of live music. The Goza Latin Band will get the Festival off to a lively, entertaining start at 12:15pm.

They are followed by the statewide and regionally popular Eight to the Bar, who will fill the Festival air with fun, energetic mix of swing and boogie-woogie music. “We were very lucky to be able to add Eight to the Bar to the Festival this year,” added Maria. “They have been around forever and are extremely sought after.” Voted CTNow’s Top Band in the 2018 Hartford Reader’s Poll, Eight to the Bar will start at 1:30pm.

Completely Different Note (CDN), an all-male acapella group from the University of Connecticut, hits the stage at 2:45 for something fun and different. “With the popularity of acapella over the last several years, we thought it would be fun to add that into our lineup,” Salice stated. “CDN is one of the state’s top acapella groups.”

A local favorite, Lori and the Legends, follow at 3:35pm, playing a set of cool soul and Motown hits. “You don’t want to miss this band,” said Maria. “They are great musicians, very entertaining and play a great selection of tunes.”

If you are a country music fan, make sure you come at 4:45 pm to listen to the Bootleg Band. This group is another local favorite with a great following and will also feature a patriotic-themed number that involves the entire audience.

One of Connecticut’s premiere Beatles tribute bands, the Number 9 Band, plays from 6:00 to 7:00. “Beatles music appeals to just about everyone,” Salice noted. “And, Number 9 is one of the state’s best. They will be playing at the sunset hour, so come out and have a cocktail or family dinner and enjoy great music and a beautiful sunset.”

Warming up the night’s headliner and returning to the Festival is the original rock trio Black Heart Tango, beginning at 7:20 pm.

Finally, the Saturday night headliner is the fun and popular Darik and the Funbags, from 8:30 to 10pm. “This band is the ideal headliner for our Festival,” stated Salice. “They are a family friendly, high-energy dance party cover band. I envision a huge dance floor in front of the main stage filled with family and friends.”

The music does not end on Saturday night. Come hang out after the parade on Sunday, September 23rd for more live music by the Mike and Jerry Beaudoin Duo, who will provide the last bookend to the festival from 5:00 to 6:30pm. “More than a duo, the band includes several other talented musicians, and features great harmonies on classic and current tunes. They are a local favorite and a perfect way to end the festival,” concluded Maria.

“Our focus on providing free music and live entertainment has made the Mum Festival a statewide must attend event”, said Jack Ferraro, Mum Festival Chair. “There is truly something for everyone throughout the four days of the Festival and we can’t wait to see all the acts take the stage in a few weeks.”
