The Mum Festival Committee, in keeping with this year’s theme of “Fall in Love with Bristol’, announced the popular Miss Mum Pageant will once again be a highlight of this year’s Mum Festival.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2018 Miss Mum Pageant. A cornerstone tradition of the Mum Festival, the pageant will take place on Friday, September 14th, 7:00 p.m. at Chippens Hill Middle School.

The Mum Festival is delighted to once again be partnering with the Nutmeg Performing Arts Center under the direction of Jessica Leopizzo, who will be directing and producing the event”, said Maria Salice, Mum Festival Entertainment Chair. “We are also very excited to have Taylor DiChello, news reporter for Fox61, as our honored emcee this year. She will be assisted by Emma Guilmette, this year’s reigning Miss Mum, along with the other current title holders.”

The pageant is open to all Bristol, Forestville, Plainville, Plymouth, Terryville and Wolcott young ladies. Once again there will be four divisions: Miss Mum (for high school students), Junior Miss Mum (for middle school students), Miss Mum Mini (for 3rd – 5th graders) and Petite Miss Mum (for Kindergarten through 2nd).

Contestants will be judged by local judges based on three on-stage appearances, and for Miss Mum on an essay submission.

“Rehearsals will be held at Nutmeg PAC in Bristol at 154 Church Street, continued Salice. “Important dates and details for this year’s essay question are also available on the Pageant website http://missmumbristol.org/.”

Miss Mum title holders participate in a variety of community events through-out the year including the Mum Festival itself (September), the Bristol Carol Sing (December), Bristol Holiday Parade (December), Bristol Home Show (February), Duck Race (May), Memorial Day Parade (May) Bristol Blues Baseball (July/August), West End Summer Festival (August), Thanksgiving Food and Turkey Drive (November) and Showcase of Stars (December).

“The Miss Mum Pageant is truly a celebration of the young ladies and future leaders in the greater Bristol area”, added Jack Ferraro, Mum Festival Chairman. “Working with our friends at Nutmeg Performing Arts, we are thrilled that this wonderful event continues as part of Mum Festival under Jessica’s direction.”
