Bristol Sprouts Another Farmers Market

Federal Hill Green Bristol Connecticut

The Mayor’s office announced the addition of a Farmers Market at the Federal Hill Green.

Due to the success of the Farmers Market downtown, the Mayor’s office, in association with the Bristol Development Authority and the Parks and Recreation Department, decided to pilot a
second Farmers Market on Federal Hill.

“Federal Hill is a very walkable neighborhood with high traffic and has great visibility,” said MayorEllen Zoppo-Sassu.

“Creating additional opportunities to access fresh food from the high-quality farmers we have participating is a win-win for everyone.”

Farmers’ markets have surged in popularity in the United States during the past 30 years.

Since the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) began collecting information on farmers’ markets in 1994, the number of markets increased from 1,755 to more than 4,385.

It is estimated that more than 3 million consumers shop at these markets, and about 30,000 small farmers and food entrepreneurs earn a partial or full living selling their local products at farmers’ markets

Farmers who engage in direct sales and consumers who buy directly with them was a win-win last year.

Consumers get the highest quality food, and farmers get a premium price for their products.

Expect to see that at both Farmer’s Markets in Bristol.

The Farmers Market begins Wednesday, July 11th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm and continues each Wednesday throughout July and August.

Parking is available at St. Joseph and Congregational Church parking lots.

The downtown Farmers Market will continue on the former mall site across from the police station from 10:00am to 1:00pm each Saturday through October 27th.
