The Road to Somewhere: Officials Update Project

Former mall site redevelopment.

The Road to Somewhere is a series of articles that chronicle the redevelopment of the former mall site with the simple start of a road. Road to Somewhere also covers community comments and politics commentary.

This time, Bristol Roundup offered elected officials a chance to update us on the project.

Councilperson David Preleski said during the Q&A:

Since taking office what have you learned about the project. Anything new?

I have heard nothing new.

Before the new road is complete, does the city have an investor already lined up? If you can’t answer, a simple yes or no is fine. However if no please explain why?

The layout for the road was designed to show investors what the project layout looks like.  The BDA is working with one possible developer now.  the road was designed to show investors what the project layout looks like. The BDA is working with one possible developer now.

Does the city have a new name for the road, and if not, what will they do to name it?

The road is un-named at this point.

When asked, Mayor Ellen Zoppo said “We are scheduled to discuss it this week.”

“Justin Malley Economic director made some broad overview comments about it.” said Ellen Zoppo

As mentioned before, Bristol Hospital bought a large portion of the property with ample parking which should not be a problem for Hospital.

The new road will be about 1,000 feet long and contain many streetscape components including trees, brick pavers, a center median made of “stamped asphalt,” decorative lights, landscaping, granite curbing, and a bus stop location.

The road will match the current look of North Main and Main Streets. The City will also update the traffic signal at North Main Street and Laurel streets.
