The Road to Somewhere: infant-structure

The Road to Somewhere is a series of articles that chronicle the redevelopment of the former mall site with the simple start of a road.

Infrastructure is the basic physical and organizational structures and facilities (e.g., buildings, roads, and power supplies) needed for the operation of a society or enterprise.

See that word? Society!

Society is the community. Society is a neighborhood, society are residents and taxpayers.

All this work is for us, the people of Bristol.

Infant-structure:

What is infant-structure? It’s not a real word, It’s made up.

infant-structure to me is another step in the right direction to completion.

This road is going up fast — really fast. So fast it makes it political — I told you it would.

Infant-structure Politics:

Much like a baby, some candidates are using this new road to garner more political points.

In a previous post I said I really didn’t care politics played a role but this one is a bit over the top and is clearly exploiting the development. Bad, very bad boy.

Um, I think you are using my picture without permission. No biggie…

This mailer leaves out an important back story — speaking of mailers, whats’ up with all these strange mailers spreading around town? Wierd!

Sources close to the deal say Bristol Hospital reached out to Renaissance Downtowns  — the former developer — to construct the medical building years ago but an agreement could not be reached due to a high and unrealistic price tag.

Once Renaissance skipped town, Bristol Hosptial reached out to the City pitching the plan. After quick negotiations and zoning approvals, a final Purchase & Sales Agreement was approved and signed by both parties, it paved the way for the new access road.

Ok enough with politics. November 7 is fast approaching and sweet baby Jesus thank God.

The infant-structure is not the only thing happening on the site. Two new entrances have been constructed. One on North Main and another on Main Street — yes Main Street.

The new entrance is about 100 feet north of the existing one. Hopefully this will not be a blind sided entrance. People fly down Main Street near to the rail road bridge on any given minute, hour, day, month and, year. I think you get the point.

All these other changes are part of the new master place for the former mall site. And for Bristol Hospital.

The new road will be about 1,000 feet long and contain many streetscape components including trees, brick pavers, a center median made of “stamped asphalt,” decorative lights, landscaping, granite curbing, and a bus stop location.

The road will match the current look of North Main and Main Streets. The City will also update the traffic signal at North Main Street and Laurel streets.

To end this edition of The Road to Somewhere, here’s a picture of Main Street as it was and Private Eyes By Hall & Oates for all the politicians :/
