Bristol Police Officer Arrested

On Saturday October 28, 2017, around 2 am, Bristol Police received a report of a vehicle stopped on School Street by the intersection of North Main Street.

The operator was reported to be sleeping in the vehicle.

Officers arrived shortly after and found the male operator sleeping in the vehicle on School Street. The operator was identified as Brian E. Bonati, age 32, a resident of Terryville Connecticut.

Bonati is employed by the City of Bristol as a police officer. At the time of this incident, he was off-duty and in his personal vehicle. Bonati was suspected of being intoxicated and was asked to perform the standardized field sobriety tests.

After completing the tests, the investigating officer determined he failed.
Bonati was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol and transported to police headquarters.

During the booking process, Bonati refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Bonati was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated. He will appear in Bristol Superior Court on November 6, 2017.

He was released on a $500 non-surety bond.

As part of this incident, an internal investigation will be conducted as well.
