The Bristol Police Department received several 9-1-1 calls early Saturday Morning regarding a large fire at the site of the former O’Connell school.

Officers found a large-scale, working structure fire.

The Bristol Fire Department battled the blaze for several hours until it was brought under control.

The fire caused extensive property damage to the structure, as well as some building materials that were on-site. No injuries were reported.

At this time, the cause of the fire has not been determined and the incident remains under investigation by the Bristol Fire Marshal and Bristol Police.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the Bristol Police at (860) 584-3000.

Back in 2015, the City of Bristol sold O’Connell and Bingham Schools for $219,000 to Bristol Enterprises LLC.

Developer Ted Lazarus was looking forward to “preserving these masterpieces of Connecticut school architecture and transforming them into something that will continue to serve the Bristol community for years to come.”

Groundbreaking for renovations on O’Connell took place this Summer.

Plans called for 39 independent-living units at O’Connell. It is unclear what will happen to the project because of the fire.
