Rash of thefts reported in Bristol; police issue safety warning

Bristol Police Complex

Police report the City of Bristol is experiencing an increase in both motor vehicle thefts and thefts of items from within motor vehicles.

Bristol is not unique in this regard as many other cities and towns are also experiencing an increase.

To help reduce these incidents the Bristol Police are requesting vehicle owners do the following:

Always lock your vehicles and remove valuables from within the vehicle and keep them out of sight.

Never leave key fobs that can start the vehicle or the car keys and house keys within the vehicle. If the vehicle is stolen there is always the possibility it can be used in a crime or damaged beyond repair.

In addition, you may experience a difficult time in settling a claim with your auto-insurance carrier should the keys be left inside and the vehicle stolen.

Homeowners should consider installing outside lighting that will illuminate vehicles parked in driveways. Motion sensor lighting appears to be well suited for this.

By accomplishing these basic precautions, you the vehicle owner and the Bristol Police in partnership can help reduce this crime.
