Community comes together for Burlington 5K Run/Walk and Whigville Harvest Fest/Parade

2016 Whigville Harvest Fest

The Whigville Preservation Group announced the 2nd Annual Whigville Harvest Fest will be held on Sunday, October 29th in conjunction with the 8th Annual Burlington 5K Run/Walk presented by the Burlington Land Trust.

Taking place during the height of the fall season and the foliage, there will be fun for the entire family after the 5K race, such as a kids’ Halloween parade, games and activities, arts and crafts, a petting zoo, tractors on display, baked goods, local produce, a silent auction, and more.

“The people of Whigville take pride in our community’s rich agricultural heritage, which will be on full display during Harvest Fest,” said Patti Smaldone, leader of the Whigville Preservation Group.

“This is a grassroots, community-driven, event that celebrates a way of life that is slowly disappearing in southern New England.”

The Whigville Preservation Group is a project of the Burlington Land Trust.

“Whigville’s farms evoke a bygone era in America that we are determined to save for future generations,” said Paul Rochford, President of the Burlington Land Trust.

“We look forward to sharing these stunning landscapes once again with runners and festival goers from other parts of Connecticut.”

The Whigville Harvest Fest will take place on Sunday, October 29th from 10:00am – 2:00pm at the Whigville Grange, 153 South Main Street, Burlington, CT.

The Burlington 5K Run/Walk will start at 10:00am at the same location.

The parade will start at 11:00am at the corner of Main Street and Julia Drive.
