On June 3, 2017 The NNMA Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Basketball tournament was held at Bristol Eastern High School.
This is the 4th year that the tournament was held at the high school. On April 3, 2013 Shenia Walker was killed by her abuser in front of her four sons.
Since then the children and family of Shenia has made it their mission to raise awareness to DV by hosting the basketball tournament, by giving back to the community, by donating to the Prudence Crandall Center in New Britain, and to hopefully one day help put a stop to Domestic Violence.
“We would like to congratulate this year’s champion and Second place winner, tournament champion Team “Meriden” and the Second place team “Get rich or Die Trying”. NNMA would like to thank all the teams that came out and played and to all the volunteers, your support goes deeper that just this tournament, it will help to support victims of Domestic Violence.”
The NNMA mission is to assist families who experience, or are threatened with domestic violence and to increase the community’s awareness of Domestic Violence.
One of the primary focus of NNMA is to provide supportive to area shelters that provide secure and safe surroundings for a victims and their children, and aid in planning for the long-term needs.
