Early Bird Catches the Cash5 $100,000 Top Prize in Bristol

landrette_040714BRISTOL – The early bird may catch the worm, but lucky Ralph Landrette of Bristol recently nabbed something just a little bit tastier.  “I was watching the 5 o’clock morning news on TV with a cup of coffee and my ‘Cash5’ tickets for the Sunday drawing.  I normally play my family’s birthday numbers, but (Sunday) I decided to get a ‘Quick Pick’ ticket, too,” Landrette told Lottery officials.  “When I saw my Quick Pick numbers go by on the news ticker…it was a shock!  I knew I won $100,000.”

The Cash5 numbers on April 6, 2014 were 1 – 11 – 16 – 24 – 31.  A total of 3,614 winning tickets were sold statewide for that drawing, with prizes ranging in value $2 to $100,000 each.

“I always told my wife, ‘One of these day’s I’m going to hit the big one,’ but she never believed me,” said Landrette with a laugh.  “When I woke her up and told her that we won $100,000, she thought I was joking.”

After sharing the news with his wife, Landrette took his ticket to a lottery retailer to have it scanned and verified, and then promptly headed to Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill to claim a prize check for $68,300 (prize value after taxes).

For selling Landrette his $100,000 prize winning ticket, Stafford News & Variety, located at 928 Stafford Avenue in Bristol, will receive a $1,000 selling bonus from the CT Lottery.
